MUSIC and farming provide the ideal mix for one of Ulster's newest rising Country stars, Boxcar Brian.

The young singer from Co Down has just released his latest album, I'M JUST ME, and is making quite a reputation for himself in the northern reaches.

A popular favourite at Hugo Duncan's outside broadcasts with BBC Radio Ulster, Boxcar Brian was born to sing.

He said: "I love Country music. It is such a part of my life. This is what I've always wanted to do and I'm so pleased that things are going so well for me.

"I'm especially delighted with my new album and I want to thank Gerard Dornan and Stevie Hamilton from Country Harmony for their great work on it and also Charlie Arkins who brings his own special style and professionalism to the recording."

Brian is especially pleased with the early reaction to one of the tracks, The Master and the Humble Guitar Man.

"Maurice Soye wrote the song about John Beattie and Seamus McMahon, the organist and lead guitar player with The Mainliners.

"They introduced the most readily identifiable and unique sound in Irish show business 40 years ago and it is one which is loved to this day.

"The styles of Seamus McMahon and John Beattie are at the heart of the Big Tom and the Mainliners sound and are what has made them such favourites with thousands of dancers since the mid-1960s.

"I'm very thankful to Maurice for giving this song to me. It is a well deserved tribute to two gentlemen of the business."

The new album, which contains 10 tracks including some medleys, also pays tribute to another of Boxcar's Brian's close friends and early influences, the legendary Brian Coll from Omagh.

"Brian, INSET, has been an nspirational figure for me. He is held in such regard by country music followers everywhere. I'm delighted to call him a good friend."
