About Geza Hosszu Legocky "aka" Gezalius

At the age of twelve, being a star prodigy, Hosszu-Legocky was invited to perform at the Verbier Music Festival as a special guest performance with legendary Ida Haendel and Vadim Repin.

The very next year Geza is invited at the tour in the USA including the Aspen Music Festival to perform a concert for NPR evening thrashing over 3 million listeners.

At the age of 14 Hosszu-Legocky made his big debut performances. He performed with major orchestras and conductors, such as the NHK Philharmonic Orchestra with Charles Dutoit, The Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra under Myung-Whun Chung and Thierry Fisher, the Swiss-Italian Radio Orchestra under Jacek Kapszsyk. Geza had also the great privilege to construct projects with Chamber Orchestras such as The Kremerata Baltica with Gidon Kremer.

His live concert recording by EMI Classics with the legendary Martha Argerich « sonata no. 1 of Schumann » got chosen in 2004 as best chamber music performance of the year and got nominated for a Grammy Award. Since that moment they have toured all over Europe, South America, The United States and Asia.

His intention of bringing his qualities in classical music to other genres such as folk, gypsy or Jewish music has made him a unique figure in the world of classical music.

In 2003 he founded a gypsy-Jewish Group, "The 5 DeViLs", for a Project in Switzerland at the Progetto Argerich, and he had immediate success. With the ensemble they have toured sold out concert halls across the globe. They celebrated 20 years existence of the ensemble at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2023.

Geza's musical colleagues includes artists such as, Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Steven Isserlis, Maxim Vengerov, Gidon Kremer, Nicola Benedetti, Sayaka Shoji, Vadim Repin, Steven Isserlis, Charles Dutoit, Thierry Fischer, Theodosia Ndkou, Gabriela Montero, Michael Guttman, Michel Legrand, Giorgia Tomassi, Lily Maisky, Wynton Marsalis to mention a few.

In 2009 Geza was chosen by a jury of legendary musicians, Violinist/Conductor Lorin Mazeel, cellist János Starker, violinist Kyung Wha Chung to receive The 1715 « Ex Joachim-Aranyi » Stradivarius Violin on loan to him by the Nippon Music Foundation in Tokyo.

Since 2023, Geza has performed at renowned venues such as the Budapest Academy Hall, Paris Philharmonic Great Hall, Bordeaux Opera Auditorium, Edinburgh International Festival, Guangzhou Opera Hall, Jiangsu Grand Theater and Athenaeum in Bucharest.

Notable First time performances include the Schumann Quintet with Martha Argerich, Steven Isserlis, Yuri Revich and Lyda Chen-Argerich, special guest performance with the legendary temper player Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Ensemble in Bucharest, appearing with Nicola Benedetti on CNN in London and performances for Medici.Tv alongside Martha Argerich, Iddo Bar-Shai, and Theodosia Ndkou in Chantilly, France. Geza was a guest artist at the opening of Maxim Vengerov's "Viva Vengerov" concert celebration in Hamburg, performing Grieg's Violin Sonata No. 3 with Karin Lechner. In June 2024 he will present his ensemble "The 5 DeViLs" and their new program "Evolution" in Hamburg, joined by Mischa Maisky, Sascha Maisky, Lily Maisky and Martha Argerich and Marie Francois.

Highlights of the season 2024/2025 include performances with the Israel Philharmonic and the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and more.
